Yesterday’s planning wasn’t quite thorough enough. I get to Bygdoy at 9.30 after a very pretty walk through some trees. None of the museums opened until 11.00. It’s a very sunny, very cold day and I had to freeze my ass off down at the harbour for an hour and a half. It was very peaceful.

Saw the Viking Ship Museum first. I wasn’t expecting it to be that good but was really impressed. The collection isn’t huge (I was done in just over an hour) but it’s really well presented. Perhaps could have done with more background info. The building was fantastic too, an art nouveau design but really fit beautifully with displays and a simple layout – great use of space.

Went to the folk museum after lunch. It’s a fairly large outdoor museum of old buildings collected from all over the country. It’s a beautiful autumn day so I didn’t mind strolling around for a few hours. Great way to kill an afternoon.
